If you're anything like me, you are bleary eyed and a bit shell shocked this morning. It's a cliche that elections have consequences, and we're all worried about what the consequences of last night's election will be.
Elections also are consequences and over the coming months, Democrats need to have a serious discussion about what action and inaction on our part led to these consequences. Pundits will weigh in, academics will go back and look for the signs that we missed, and the media will engage in self-flagellation.
But we shouldn't let them lead the conversation- they didn't do a very good job of it this election cycle.
Politics is local. It's time to get active. It's time to come together as Democrats in our city and join forces with Democrats in our county and Democrats in our state. The governor's race is next year, the midterm elections will be here the year after that, and 2020 will be here soon after that. We start today.
This coming Monday, November 14th from 6:30-8:30 please join the HDSC for a discussion about anything you want concerning democratic politics. Let's brainstorm and commiserate and start to organize. Location is to be confirmed later this week, but will most likely be an open space where we can literally sit in a circle and talk. Please indicate your interest in participating with a quick email so we can plan to find a space of appropriate size.
"The future will not belong to those who sit on the sidelines. The future will not belong to the cynics. The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." - Paul Wellstone
